I got an idea floating around in my head about making some fiberglass speaker pods for the front doors on my 08 Chevy, which is an LT model...not LTZ. I'd be fitting a set of 6.5in. components into it. I don't want to hack up the door panels for these pods and was wondering if the speaker grille on the panels is removable? If so, that would be perfect to run the wire through and then come up with a way to attach the pods to the door panels through that hole.
Otherwise I don't want to drill out a hole in the door to run my wiring. I think I'd use double sided tape to attach the pod onto the door, at least at the top half of the pod. If the screens/grilles on these door panels were plastic riveted on or was able to be cut off, I could live with that.
This is the style of door I have...
