I'm just going to put Obsidian out there, since they've been on fire this month.

Totally worth it. Sundown is cool too. They're tinkering with a new underhung SQL woofer. Looks nasty!

Uhhhhhh there is no best, but! you can get a pair of Sundown 15"s for under $400. Search around, if you don't know about the quality ask around here and search for reviews.. What are you trying to do? looking for heavy/accurate bass? or just blasting SPL?

i just got an mb quart 15inch pwe254 for less that 150, they handle 800wrms/1600peak. they only need 1.5 cf sealed box. i have mine on a ap apsm1300, once the sub is 'broken in' it should pound pretty good. research mb quart pwe354/352 and see what you find. some on here will laugh or graon on this buts i dont care, as said before its all about what sounds good to you.

I personally like the newer quantum audio stuff... look on amazon for QACW15D4.... They hit hard for me... I know a guy that ran a pair of them and a hifonics brutus 2000.1 amp to them with a prefab Super Bass Pro-Box and he was able to pull hair tricks pretty decently and hit 150+ dbs in a 4 door blazer... amazon has them for like $125 a piece and if you havent ever ordered from there, you can get create a profile and get them shipped very quickly for no additional cost... Pm me if you have any questions on them.. Theyre 3000 watt max and 800 rms each... They'll surprise you. I've ran quantums new stuff since it first came out on the 2010 lineup and I love it.. Very deep, clean, solid, bass that keeps your account from suffering.. I've seen a pair used daily take 950ish wrms a piece with no problem. They are underrated. But make sure you stay away from the orange and black quantum line. Its garbage.. ONLY go with the Alpha Series and they're amps arent anything special either, I just like the subs and components

how is 150+ db off a PAIR of 15s with 2000rms in a prefab box for under $500 not heavy bass?? have you heard any of the new quantum alpha series stuff... for the price tag, its honestly hard to beat! if you watch it long enough you can get something with true watts with the price tag of boss... to me thats a good deal. Ill get a few more of them and strap another just diamond d5 to them and let you hear them... you'd be surprised.. guaranteed. The orange and black quantum stuff is garbage i know this, but the alpha series is not bad, sells like crazy around here. I'm running mine at 870wrms daily and have been for over 6 months and it doesnt stink or even get hot.. warm yes but not hot! its in a 4 cu/ft box tuned to 32 hz.. almost twice the box size it recommends from quantum and i've had no problems, nor has the other 10 vehicles ive put the new quantum stuff into.

If he wants *HEAVY BASS!!* look for like a pair of DC lvl 4s and hope you can find them cheap enough used. with the quantums he could basically almost build a whole system for under $500... if he has a limit of 500 then he's not going for all out competition status. probably just a hard street vehicle, and those quantums would do it guaranteed with a small price tag
